Terry Sheffey is the Welcome Attendant/Greeter at Pitt’s Community Engagement Center in Homewood.
Terry is the owner and President of Sheffey Consultants, LCC, a social service agency that provides outpatient and family therapy to children, adolescents and adults that present with complex social, emotional, and behavioral health needs. It is his goal to ensure that no family, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or socioeconomic status, is denied access to quality clinical care.
Terry received a Bachelor of Science in Community and Regional Planning from Iowa State University. Terry has over 30 years of experience within the field of social services. Prior to owning his company, Terry previously served as Behavior and Crisis Intervention Specialist, Youth Gang Coordinator, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club, Clinical Supervisor, Community Outreach Coordinator, Director of Development and Director of Training. Terry has developed and facilitated trainings pertaining to cultural diversity and has facilitated support groups targeting the needs of minority families impacted by autism and other behavioral health issues. Terry participated in a documentary addressing autism and minority families through a collaborative project with the University of Pittsburgh Center for Excellence in Autism Research. Terry also served as a consultant and speaker for 4 years at Guaranty Trust (GT) Bank’s Annual International Autism Conference in collaboration with the Blazing Trails International Center in Lagos, Nigeria. His presentations, “The Dark Side of Autism – It Takes a Village to Raise a Child” and “Socializing for Children with Autism” was heard by 136,000 around the world in person and via a live internet feed.
Always the athlete, Terry continues to play softball competitively and travels across the United States to compete in tournaments throughout the year. Terry has won over 24 National Championships and proudly displays his vast ring collection in his “man-cave!” Terry is also a 39-year member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and is also a 30-year member of the Prince Hall Masonic Order. Terry and his wife Christine reside in Forest Hills with their two daughters, Madison and Arianna. Terry also has a son, Terry Sheffey Jr., that lives in Pittsburgh.
